Project Description:

After nearly 20 years of planning, the City of Nappanee started construction in late 2016 on the largest public works project in their history—$30 Million dollars.  The overall project focused on improving the collection and treatment of excessive combined sewage produced during wet weather events while reducing the volume of combined sewer overflows to the local waterway.

The project scope included over 5,800 lineal feet of transport sewer pipe that brings the collected combined sewage flow to a new rectangular storage tank at the Nappanee WWTP to allow for treatment of this wastewater.

The general contractor recognized the value of a DuraStorâ„¢ Prestressed Concrete Tank reinforced with VSL post-tensioning systems as a major solution to not only provide a watertight, durable tank but also provide over $700,000 in cost savings over a conventionally reinforced tank design.  These savings were not only valuable to the GC but also to the City to help with the cost of their investment to improve their wastewater infrastructure.
